چکیده

We combine network utility maximization with adaptive modulation and examine adaptive rate and adaptive transmission powers schemes that maximize average utility, subject to constraints on average transmission power and BER. A broad class of parameterized utility functions is considered as are instantaneous and average BER. Closed form optimal strategies are found for several commonly used classes of modulation. In many cases these functions adapt to changing channel conditions differently than functions designed to maximize spectral efficiency.

Non-Monotone Adaptive Submodular Maximization

A wide range of AI problems, such as sensor placement, active learning, and network influence maximization, require sequentially selecting elements from a large set with the goal of optimizing the utility of the selected subset. Moreover, each element that is picked may provide stochastic feedback, which can be used to make smarter decisions about future selections. Finding efficient policies f...

Resource Allocation and Adaptive Modulation in Uplink SC-FDMA Systems

In this paper, we study resource allocation and adaptive modulation in SC-FDMA which is adopted as the multiple access scheme for the uplink in the 3GPP-LTE standard. A sum-utility maximization (SUmax), and a joint adaptive modulation and sum-cost minimization (JAMSCmin) problems are considered. Unlike OFDMA, in addition to the restriction of allocating a sub-channel to one user at most, the mu...

Optimal downlink power allocation in cellular networks

In this paper, we introduce a novel approach for power allocation in cellular networks. In our model, we use sigmoidal-like utility functions to represent different users’ modulation schemes. Each utility function is a representation of the probability of successfully transmitted packets per unit of power consumed by a user, when using a certain modulation scheme. We consider power allocation w...

Throughput maximization using adaptive modulation in wireless networks with fairness constraint

In multi-access wireless communication networks, cochannel interference and timing varying nature of the channel are two important detrimental effects to reduce the network throughput. Adaptive modulation techniques have the potential to substantially increase the spectrum efficiency by providing the users with different levels of throughput according to the channel conditions. In this paper, w...
